About Stafafell:
Stafafell is nestled between the rainbow-hued mountains of Lón
and Lónssandur, the delta of Jökulsá í Lóni. The church in
Stafafell was built in 1868 and contains some lovely artefacts,
including an alterpiece from the middle of the 17th century.
The mountains of Stafafell are known for their rhyolite colours and
and contrasts in nature. Our travel service has recently publised an
informational hiking map of the whole area which describes the
geology and flora and fauna as well. In spite of the rugged land-
scape, the area is abundant in vegetation. There is a special
chapter about Lónsöræfi nature reserve in the hiking book.
There is accommodation for up to 40 persons in holiday cottages
and a separate building, and campsites with good sanitary facilites.
